Crimson Clover (Trifolium incarnatum) Seeds
True to its name, crimson clover coats the ground with deep red blooms and dainty, rounded clover leaves. The flowers are loved by bees and other beneficial insects. A fast-growing upright annual that establishes quickly, this is an ideal plant to use as ground cover for an area. It is commonly used as a green manure, since it fixes nitrogen, suppresses weeds, and helps to improve soil structure. Looks beautiful covering an area or interspersed with grass and other wildflowers in a meadow.
Available in packs of:
- 100 seeds (for individual planting)
- 400 seeds (enough to cover 1 square metre as green manure)
- 2000 seeds (10g - enough to cover 5 square metres as green manure)
We can offer this in larger quantities on request. Please contact us if you wish to order in bulk.
Sow seeds into warm soil between March and September
- Scatter the seeds evenly over your chosen area
- Rake over the area and water well
- Water the plants in dry periods until established.
Sow outdoors: March to September
For green manure, cut the plants down before they flower and dig in, or leave on the surface as a mulch for worms to incorporate. Leave for at least a month to break down into the soil before planting following crops. As a nitrogen-fixing plant this is ideal to use as a green manure before planting brassicas.
This plant is safe for pets and grazing animals. Prefers light, sandy soil conditions and growing in full sun to partial shade. This is a half-hardy annual.
